Option 1


 

ADay 1: Arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport and travel to Arenal Volcano

BDays 2-3: Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal (hiking, waterfall, hot springs)

Volcán Arenal National Park is one of the most popular places to visit and should be part of your next visit. It is considered to be a living laboratory for the development of biological processes, in addition to providing 70% of the water that is held in the Arenal Dam reservoir, the country’s main source of hydroelectric energy. It is situated in the country’s northern region, some 7 kilometers northeast of La Fortuna de San Carlos. While you’re here, you can choose from a variety of activities including ziplining, horseback riding, hanging bridges, hiking, waterfalls, or taking a dip in the hot springs. The volcano remained inactive for a long time, until erupting violently in 1968. Its height extends from 500 to 1,633 meters above sea level, and it is defining feature is its nearly perfect conical shape, making it distinctive from the rest of the country’s volcanoes. Hours of operation: Every day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You cannot leave the northern region without first visiting Arenal Lake. This artificial reservoir is one of the largest in Central America, with an area of 85.5 km2, which is three times its original size before becoming part of a hydroelectric project. It is famous for the variety of water sports practiced there, which include windsurfing, fishing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

CDays 4-7: Santa Teresa and Mal País

You’ve arrived at the land of surfing, of unforgettable sunsets, or white sand, adventure, cuisine and an air of enjoyment. Santa Teresa is located on the Nicoya Peninsula and is a beach town that is highly frequented by surfers. It’s a place where you can hike or go ziplining, ride an ATV, visit waterfalls or just spend some time relaxing on its welcoming beaches. We invite you to visit Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve, which is located just 5 km away and is home to some 1,270 hectares of mixed forest with an incredible variety of coastal bird species, forest trails and gorgeous sea views. Mal País is another destination that can’t be missed: a beautiful beach 3 km from San Teresa which has good surfing spots but also offers angling, diving and kitesurfing.

DDays 7-9: Nosara and surroundings (yoga, beaches, hiking, surfing)

Nosara is located in Nicoya and is seen as a destination for surfing, yoga and smoothies of every flavor. Guiones is its main beach, consisting of 7 km of shiny white sand and bordering Garza and Pelada beaches. There are footpaths to tour the sandy beaches and instructors are nearby to help you take the plunge and get on the board. The Ostional National Wildlife Refuge is located some 13 km from Guiones, and is the nesting grounds of Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, leatherback sea turtles and .green sea turtles This is where the world’s second-largest sea turtle nesting takes place during the months of September and October, when a stretch of up to 7 km of the beach can fill up with the animals. Tours are only available with accredited guides from the region in order to avoid interfeting with the nesting process.

EDay 10: Departure from Daniel Oduber International Airport, Liberia

DDays 8-9: Parrita Beaches (mangrove tour, hiking)

Parrita is a community located on the approach to Manuel Antonio National Park and is well known for its extensive oil palm plantations. The waters of the Río Parrita are ideal for rafting, with Class II and III rapids, a very exciting way to see the seabirds and other wildlife of the area. In addition, it’s possible to go angling for fish such as tuna, marlin, wahoo and sea bass. There are several beaches to enjoy near Parrita, including Jacó, Hermosa, Herradura, Esterillos and Bejuco. In addition, the region is great for hiking or enjoying a mangrove tour in boat around Playa Palo Seco, where you can observe crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys and a great variety of birds. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for refreshment you can explore Las Pilas de Parrita, three natural pools amidst pure natural surroundings.
